Routine dental examinations provide a chance for Dr. Smith to monitor your child’s oral health and growth and development. He will check for any potential problems, which can make treatment easier and in some cases eliminate it.
What we do at a typical visit:
- Examination. Dr. Smith will check the large structures of the head and neck, the oral soft tissues, and the teeth. He will search for cavities, gum disease, oral pathology, and bite problems.
- X-rays. X-rays are never made routinely. After an oral evaluation, Dr. Smith may prescribe specific x-rays. His recommendations will always be discussed with you. They are often critical in making a proper diagnosis.
- Cleaning. Plaque, food debris, stains, and tartar are removed to restore a healthy oral environment and a bright smile.
- Education. We teach our patients and their parent's ways to maintain optimal oral health. This discussion includes oral hygiene instruction, dietary suggestions, and recommendations concerning optimal fluoride usage.
One-Year Dental Visit
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry strongly recommends that your child be seen for their first visit by their first birthday. Dr. Smith will make a full examination to find any early problems. Equally important, he can make suggestions about proper home care, a dentally healthy diet, and necessary fluoride intake that can start your child on a cavity-free lifetime!
